HEALTH/FOOD:
The temps are starting to rise and folks are starting to get more active outside. Please remember to drink lots of water and stay hydrated. If you are going to be active outside, then avoid drinks with caffeine in them as they will actually help to Dehydrate you rather then hydrate. While this is important for everyone, it is especially important for fursuiters, especially those that like to go out to the parks in the daylight hours. Be sure to take plenty of breaks without your head on so you can cool down. The last thing we need is for some poor overheated fursuiter to fall over from heat exhaustion or heat stroke in the middle of a park in front of a bunch of kids. :)
RECIPE OF THE MONTH:
LEMON BARS
For the crust:
Veg oil (for greasing)
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, diced
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar, plus more for garnish
1/4 tsp salt
For the filling:
4 large eggs, plus 2 yolks
2 cups granulated sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp grated lemon zest
1 cup fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Make the crust: Position a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350F. Grease a 9”x13” pan with the oil and line with foil, leaving a 2” overhang on all sides; grease the foil with oil. Pulse the butter, flour, both sugars and the salt in a food processor until the dough comes together, about 1 min. Press evenly into the bottom and about 1/2” up the sides of the prepared pan, making sure there are no cracks. Bake until the crust is golden, about 25 minutes.
While the crust is baking make the filling: Whisk together the whole eggs and yolks, sugar and flour in a bowl until smooth. Whisk in the lemon zest and juice. When crust is ready remove it from the oven and reduce the temp to 300F. Pour the filling over the warm crust and return to oven. Bake until the filling is just set, about 30-35 minutes.
Let the bars cool in the pan on a rack, then refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours. Lift out of the pan using the foil and slice. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.

CYBERFUR:
Looking for some place to be able to hang out and talk with other furs in real-time, but either can't or don't want to use Second Life, then come and join the chats on Furnet (irc.furnet.org). There are hundreds of chat rooms just waiting for you to discover. There are 3 channels that should be of particular interest to those here in the TN Valley: #alabama_furs, #SE_Furs, #NARF. THE IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is easy to use and there are dozens of programs you can use to access the chat rooms with. One of the most popular for Windows is 'mIRC' followed closely by 'Pirch'. You can find either of these on tucows.com or download.com. I'm not sure what's available for MAC, but I know there are several available. For Linux I recommend 'konversation', or mIRC runs great under wine. If you need any help getting connected just give Dallas a yell and he'll be happy to walk you through getting in.
